After Mackenzie Hughes scared 59 on Thursday in Round 1 and three of golf’s stars — Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele — all shot 7-under 63, be prepared for anything to happen on Friday in Round 2 at the 2020 Travelers Championship. It is not unexpected to get great leaderboards at events with elite fields (and all three tournaments the PGA Tour has played while returning amid the COVID-19 pandemic have included elite fields), but it’s fun to get the diversity we’ve seen on these boards.
From Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia (-6) to Bryson DeChambeau (-5), Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm (-4), we’re seeing a variety of players get it done in several different ways. Others will join them on Friday as McIlroy tries to overtake Hughes for the lead going into the weekend and keep his spot as the tournament favorite. With how low scores went on Thursday (68.5 average), you won’t want to miss any of the action on Friday.
